Make plans now to attend the 2007 NALF to convene in Natural Bridge, Virginia the weekend of July 20-22, hosted by Frank Lively. Accommodations will be at the Natural Bridge Hotel at a group rate of $77.70 per four-person room, including taxes. Located between Lexington and Roanoke in the midst of Virginia's historic countryside, Natural Bridge features an abundance of natural attractions, including caverns and wildlife trails. Civil War buffs will find several sites nearby, and the hotel is within easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Museum, the Wax Museum, a Haunted House, and a Factory Tour. Discounts will be available for those attractions which charge an admission.
Nearby Lexington is the home of two historic universities: Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee University. Both schools have on-site museums which feature such attractions as the Cadet Museum at VMI and Robert E. Lee Chapel and Museum at Washington and Lee. The town was home to Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson and contains many spots of interest related to both of these Civil War Generals. 80th Birthday Celebration | |
| Mrs. Katherine Glisson Lively was honored with a celebration of her 80th birthday on November 25, 2006 at the home of Bill and Debbie Lively in Shellbluff (Burke County), GA. Katherine is the wife of the late Quartus Urbane (Q.U.) Lively of Burke County. A host of family and friends gathered on this crisp autumn evening to celebrate "a lifetime of good friendship."
"Aunt Kat" - or "Miss Katherine" as many in the community know her - has been an integral part of the Shellbluff community for most of her life. She has been an active member of Botsford Baptist Church in Shellbluff and has participated in the choir and other fellowship activities for many years. She is known far and wide for her delicious home cooking and has supplied tasty dishes for hundreds of family gatherings at the Lively Pond. |

| Jayden Taylor Jones born July 15, 2006., daughter of Nathan and Alicia Jones, grand-daughter of Kim and Nathan Brown. She is also the great-granddaughter of Annie Lee Lively Brown and the great-great grand daughter of Ashton and Stella Lively.

Mary Lively died March 3, 2007 in Penhook, VA. Mary is survived by her husband, NALF genealogist Robert (Bob) Lee Lively, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Lyn and Kendel Dozier Lively of Troutville, Va.; two grandsons, Terry Robert and James Michael Lively of Troutville, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Lee and Jane McAllister Greene of Star; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lively and husband, Richard M. (Dick) Friest of Anchorage, Alaska and Nancy Lively and husband, Sidney N. (Sid) Crockett of Wytheville, Va.; a brother-in-law, William L. Lively and wife, Linda Smith Lively of Wytheville, Va. and six nieces and four nephews.
Mary was the daughter of Val B. and Agnes Greene. She taught and coached at Henderson High School before becoming a full-time homemaker and mother. A life celebration was held for Mary on Sunday, March 11, at White Plains United Methodist Church in Cary, NC. |
| Weddings and Engagements Leah Michelle Cannon married James Hayden Machino on February 18, 2007 in Nashville, TN at the Grand Ole Opry House. Jimmy is the son of Pam (Poole) and Ron Rogers and the grandson of Jimmy and Octama (Lively) Poole of Shellbluff, GA. Q.U. Lively, III (Art) and Amy Lane are engaged to be married on April 27, 2007. Art is the son of Q.U. Jr. (Urbane) and Susan Lively of Waynesboro, GA. |
Betty Sue Lively Revels Doffermyer died March 3, 2007 in San Antonio, TX after a long illness. Born on Aug 1, 1941 in Hinton, VW to Jonas Gilman and Mary Sherwood Lively, Betty Sue was predeceased in death by her first husband, Eli Revels, her second husband, William Doffermyer, and her step-daughter, Tracy Doffermyer Sanfranski. She is survived by her sister, Mary Lively Rogers, of San Antonio, and one niece and one nephew.
Betty Sue enjoyed a long civil service career following her employment with the US Army. She was an enthusiastic NALF member who looked forward to the annual reunion each year and enjoyed reading the newsletters and genealogical books. A memorial service was observed in San Antonio at Madison Estates on March 10, and interment was held on March 14 at historic Fairfax City Cemetary in Fairfax, VA following a service at Everly Funeral Home. Betty Sue was honored with a Gaelic farewell and the Lord's Prayer performed by a soloist from the US Army Chorus. |
